A poem..

A poem..

A Poem.....

The brain of Alber Einstein

DO YOU KNOW.....
Albert Einstein's Brain May Provide Clues To His Genius, Study Says
By Dominique Mosbergen

Now, scientists may have uncovered a clue within the physicist's unusual brain.

The images of Einstein’s brain are published in Falk, Lepore & Noe 2012, (The cerebral cortex of Albert Einstein: a description and preliminary analysis of unpublished photographs, "Brain") and are reproduced here with permission from the National Museum of Health and Medicine, Silver Spring, Md.

According to a new study led by Florida State University evolutionary anthropologist Dean Falk, "portions of Einstein’s brain have been found to be unlike those of most people and could be related to his extraordinary cognitive abilities."

"Certain things are normal," Falk told The Huffington Post in a phone interview. "Brain size is normal. Overall shape is asymmetrical, and that is normal. What is unusual is the complexity and convolution in the various parts of the brain."

According to a written statement issued by the university, the study, published Nov. 16 in the journal "Brain," reveals the description of Einstein's entire cerebral cortex. To do this, Falk and her colleagues examined 14 recently uncovered photographs of Einstein's brain -- photos that, Falk said, were difficult to obtain.

When Einstein died in 1955, his brain was removed by Thomas Harvey, a doctor at the hospital where the physicist died, NPR notes. It is likely that Harvey never got permission to remove the brain, but as author Brian Burrell writes in "Postcards from the Brain Museum," the doctor got a posthumous stamp of approval from Einstein's son.

Harvey had said that he intended to study the brain, or at the very least, to find other scientists to do so -- something that was never satisfactorily achieved in the doctor's lifetime.

Still, scientists are now able to study Einstein's brain thanks to a number of photos and specimen slides that Harvey had prepared of the organ. The brain, which was photographed from multiple angles, also has been sectioned into 240 blocks from which histological slides were made.

As the FSU statement notes, most of the photographs, blocks and slides were lost from public sight for more than 55 years; fortunately, a number of them have been recently rediscovered and some can now be found at the National Museum of Health and Medicine.

It was with a few of these images, 14 to be exact, that Falk and her colleagues were able to take a closer look at Einstein's brain.

What they discovered was astonishing.

“Although the overall size and asymmetrical shape of Einstein’s brain were normal, the prefrontal, somatosensory, primary motor, parietal, temporal and occipital cortices were extraordinary,” said Falk, who compared the organ to 85 other human brains already described in the scientific literature. “These may have provided the neurological underpinnings for some of his visuospatial and mathematical abilities.”

(Highlights of Einstein’s brain; published in Falk, Lepore & Noe (2012) and are reproduced here with permission from the National Museum of Health and Medicine, Silver Spring, Md.)

For instance, Falk explained to The Huffington Post, parts of Einstein's frontal lobe are "extra convoluted," his parietal lobes are in some parts "extraordinarily asymmetrical," and his primary somatosensory and motor cortices near the regions that typically represent face and tongue are "greatly expanded in the left hemisphere."

"I was blown away," she said.

Albert Galaburda, a neuroscientist at Harvard Medical School in Boston, told Science magazine that "what's great about this paper is that it puts down…the entire anatomy of Einstein's brain in great detail." But, he added, the study raises "very important questions for which we don't have an answer."

"Among them are whether Einstein started off with a special brain that predisposed him to be a great physicist, or whether doing great physics caused certain parts of his brain to expand. Einstein's genius, Galaburda says, was probably due to 'some combination of a special brain and the environment he lived in,'" the magazine continues.

Interest in Einstein's brain is by no means a new phenomenon.

As Burrell writes, "the brain of Albert Einstein has acquired a notoriety out of all proportion to its value as an anatomical specimen."

In 1999, scientists at Ontario's McMaster University were able to compare the shape and size of Einstein's brain with those of about 90 people with average intelligence, according to the BBC. The researchers, who used a few of Harvey's other photographs, found at the time that at least "one area of his brain was significantly different than most people's."

Years later, Falk took her first stab at analyzing Einstein's brain and at the time, had claimed to have identified "a number of previously unrecognized unusual features" of the organ, Science magazine wrote in 2009.

As USA Today reports, the locations of some chunks of Einstein's brain are still unknown, so "the photos of the full, pre-dissected brain are a real find."

The door is now open for other scientists to learn more about the legendary physicist's brain.

"This is a starting place," Falk told The Huffington Post. "In this study, we [tried to set] the groundwork by thoroughly describing the brain as much as we can, interpreting our findings and suggesting hypotheses for other scientists who will, I'm sure, will want to look at these slides in the future."

For instance, Falk said, scientists could look at "brains of gifted people and compare them to Einstein's."

"There's a revolution going on in neuroscience right now... and there is technology that can make these images more meaningful," she said. "We're still learning from Einstein, all these years after his death."

Remembering 26 Nov in Mumbai

A poem -

A poem.......

A poem.......

A Poem --

A poem.........

A poem.........

By not publicly disclosing the reasons for rejecting Ajmal Kasab’s mercy petition, Pranab Mukherjee missed an excellent opportunity to contribute to the rule of law
President Pranab Mukherjee’s decision to reject the mercy petition submitted by the lone convict in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, is an instance of how public perceptions about a convict’s guilt can camouflage the government’s duty to explain the decision. The President’s decision is shrouded in secrecy, throwing little light on the principles which guided it.
Under Section 4(1) (d) of the Right to Information Act, every public authority shall provide reasons for its administrative or quasi-judicial decisions to affected persons. This provision has no exemptions. The government erroneously denies information to RTI applicants seeking reasons for its mercy decisions, taking shelter under Article 74 (2) which only bars inquiries by courts into Ministers’ advice to the President.
Significant
The reasons for rejecting a mercy petition are significant, not only from the point of view of the convict who has sent it, but for other convicts who may use them as precedents while drafting their own.
Non-speaking rejections render the object of the President’s mercy power in a democracy meaningless, and its exercise arbitrary. They only leave the field open to uninformed commentary in the media about the President’s record in disposing of mercy petitions.
There was much misconceived criticism in the media of the former President, Pratibha Patil’s commutation of death penalties of 35 prisoners during her term forcing her to come out with a press release, while in office, in her defence.
Article 72 of the Constitution which enables the President to grant pardons, etc., and to suspend, remit or commute sentences has its parallel provision in Article 161 which enables the Governor to exercise similar powers with regard to matters to which the executive power of the State extends. The President or the Governor acts on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers, while exercising the powers under these provisions. Unlike the Governor, however, the President may require the Council of Ministers to reconsider such advice, and the President shall act in accordance with the advice tendered after such reconsideration.
Scholar Bikram Jeet Batra has found that India’s first two Presidents, Rajendra Prasad and Radhakrishnan, stretched the limited powers available under the Constitution, and tried to assert their moral authority over the executive, by persuading it to reconsider its initial advice to reject mercy petitions in several cases.
Their successors — with the exception of R. Venkataraman and S.D. Sharma — by and large followed this legacy. Implicit in this legacy is the valid assumption that the pardon power can be exercised if there are compassionate grounds which may favour the convict, whatever the horrible nature of the crime found to have been committed. A corollary of this assumption is that the Supreme Court’s findings which resulted in the conviction and sentencing of the appellant convict would hardly matter to the President, if the compassionate grounds are sufficient to accept a mercy petition. The President and the executive sometimes differ on this, and the resolution of this difference often takes time.
When it appeared that the executive was not likely to revise its initial advice to the President, the Presidents used the option to delay the rejection of a petition as long as they could, even by not acting on it till the completion of their tenures. Presidents K.R. Narayanan, Abdul Kalam, and Pratibha Patil used this option, as the Constitution does not impose any time limit for the President within which a mercy petition must be disposed of. Silences in the Constitution also convey significant messages, and an unstated discretion to the President, when he or she disagrees with the advice tendered by the government, to delay the decision can be easily inferred.
Experience shows that successive Presidents stand vindicated by their pursuit of this legacy. Most of the 35 commutations decided by Ms Patil were part of the backlog left by Mr. Narayanan and Mr. Kalam. In many cases, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), acting on behalf of the Council of Ministers, had initially advised the President to reject the petition. However, when the President asked the successor government and a new Home Minister to reconsider the earlier advice, it resulted in commutation.
Sometimes, even after the President rejected a mercy petition, hanging of the convict was stopped, on the basis of a fresh mercy petition, which was later accepted by the same President or his successor.
Case of Parmatma Saran
The earliest example of this is that of Parmatma Saran, whose mercy petition file is preserved in the National Archives. Saran’s was a unique case in the entire history of mercy petitions in India. The Supreme Court, like the courts below it, found him guilty of killing his wife by burning her, and did not find any mitigating factor in his favour. The Home Ministry first concurred with the Court, and President Rajendra Prasad rejected his mercy petition on January 10, 1962, on the basis of the Ministry’s advice.
However, before Saran could be executed, the MHA received a fresh mercy plea from Saran’s father-in-law in the interest of his five-year old grandson, born out of his deceased daughter’s marriage with Saran. This tilted the views of both the Home Ministry and the President in favour of commutation, as they found it rare that a victim’s relative could plead for mercy.
The commutation of the death sentence of R. Govindasamy to life imprisonment offers a dramatic example of how a flip-flop can happen after the President duly rejects a mercy petition. President Narayanan rejected his mercy petition, on the basis of the then NDA government’s advice, in October 1999. The same NDA government, however, stayed his execution, following various appeals from Tamil Nadu favouring commutation of his sentence. Govindasamy was the first convict to get relief from Ms Patil, who commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment on November 18, 2009 following the receipt of a fresh mercy petition. Satish was another recent case. The former Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, had recommended rejection of his mercy petition to the President in July 2008. But Ms Patil, on the basis of a fresh advice from Shivraj Patil’s successor, P. Chidambaram, commuted Satish’s death sentence to life imprisonment on May 8 this year.
Ms Patil left the mercy petitions of 16 convicts undecided. This suggests that she might have disagreed with the government’s advice to reject the mercy petitions of these convicts. One of these is that of Saibanna, who the Supreme Court admitted it had erroneously sentenced to death, by following a wrong legal precedent.
The Supreme Court admitted similar error while sentencing to death 12 other convicts. Fourteen former judges have, in a recent appeal to the President, justified the commutation of the death sentences of these 13 convicts, to life imprisonments.
Of these, five have already got their death sentences commuted to life sentences by the Governor or the President. The President will, hopefully, examine mercy pleas of the remaining eight, in the light of the former judges’ appeal.
The last hanging in India was that of Dhananjoy Chatterjee in 2004. Batra has found from MHA files under the RTI Act that the briefs prepared for President Kalam provided an inaccurate and incomplete view of the 10-year delay in his execution, ignoring official negligence. He suggests that a reasoned and transparent decision could have made it easy for the Supreme Court to intervene on the ground that relevant material was not placed before the President, before executing Chatterjee.
President Pranab Mukherjee missed an excellent opportunity to contribute to the rule of law, by not publicly disclosing the reasons for his decision on Kasab. Every death row convict has an inherent right under Article 21 — even if so far untested by the Courts — to be apprised of the reasons for the rejection of his mercy petition, which would deprive him of his life. Others are entitled to know the reasons as well under the RTI Act.

A poem.....

please read his famous poem.....Hanso Hanso Jaldi Hanso...

Sun lo to inaayat hai.....

Swami Vivekananda On Fanaticism

Swami Vivekananda On Fanaticism

Each religion brings out its own doctrines and insists upon them as being the only true ones. And not only does it do that, but it thinks that he who does not believe in them must go to some horrible place. Some will even draw the sword to compel others to believe as they do. This is not through wickedness, but through a particular disease of the human brain called
fanaticism. They are very sincere, these fanatics, the most sincere of human beings; but they are quite as irresponsible as other lunatics in the world. This disease of fanaticism is one of the most dangerous of all diseases. All the wickedness of human nature is roused by it. Anger is stirred up, nerves are strung high, and human beings become like tigers.

Please condemn it....

"With all respect, every day, thousands of people die, but still the world moves on. Just due to one politician died a natural death, everyone just goes bonkers. They should know, we are resilient by force, not by choice. When was the last time, did anyone showed some respect or even a two-minute silence for Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Maulana Azad, Sukhdev or any of the people because of whom we are free-living Indians? Respect is earned, given, and definitely not forced. Today, Mumbai shuts down due to fear, not due to respect.

A Poem...

About operation Osama Bin Laden

Amazing Commando Dog Helped Snare Bin Laden
Have any of you noticed that the video coverage/footage of the raid on Osama BL's Pakistan compound last week featured a dog barking in the background? Hearing that barking made me wonder what became of the furry soul involved in that military operation. As of today, we have our answer!
A Bin Laden Hunter on Four Legs
As it turns out, along with the 79 commandos who raided Osama bin Laden's compound was a war dog! Yes, The New York Times reports that along with those Navy Seals was a trusty, heavily-armored, explosive-sniffing pup, who, according to The Sun in the U.K., was strapped to an assault team member and lowered into Bin Laden's hideout from a Black Hawk helicopter. The military has been training dogs, just like the Seals, to be dropped into hostile territory from 25,000 feet in the air. Who knew that these amazing dogs were now being trained to jump from helicopters?! To ensure their safety, t
hey are given oxygen masks for helicopter jumps as well as helmets with videocameras for remote monitoring. Super cool huh?!
These specially trained furry soldiers are trained to attack anyone carrying a weapon and have become apivotal part of special operations as they crawl unnoticed into tunnels or rooms to hunt for enemy combatants. The cameras on their heads beam live TV pictures back to the troops, providing them with critical information and warning of ambushes. Dogs were also used in the capture of Saddam Hussein and in the killing of the Iraqi dictator's two sons.
The Daily Treat sends fourteen paws up to the amazing two and four-legged heros that are serving their country and doing us proud!
GlobalAnimal.org speculates that the breed of dog in this mission was most likely a German Shepherd.

A Poem..

A Short Poem.....''

pl read this short poem...

A Poem..
(in Roman below )

Tum kitne bhee zaalim ho jaaao,
Tthoons do,
Munh mein kaprde,
Sardak par chalanaa,
Doobhar kar do,
Saaree mulaaqaaten paaband kar do,
Jalaa do saare saahitya,
Jo dikhaate hain maarg mukti kaa ,
Nashta kar do saare akhabaar,
Jo lagate hain tumhe khoonkhaar,
saare hathiyaaron se bhee
Maun kar do,
Saare maadhyam, prachaar ke,
kar do, alag thalag,
Logon ko, ek doosare se,
Kaat daalon briksh saare upawan ke,
Par tab bhee,
Haan tab bhee,
Basant kaa aagaman tum naheen rok sakate,
'Shaktaar' kee tarah,
Khod kar aptee zameen,
Apnee nakhon se,
Woh baahar aayegaa,
Woh abhee zindaa hai,
Zindaa rahegaa.
